John’s first US Feature, The Perfect Host will be having it’s world premiere at the prestigious SUNDANCE film festival in 2010.

John Brawley is an MA graduate of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS). Since graduating, he has worked extensively in the US, Europe and Australasia.

John has been a freelance cinematographer since 2000, after five years with the largest Australian owned camera rental company, Lemac.  His first 35mm short film, Bird In Wire, was nominated for a Palme d’Or at Cannes and earned an AFI nomination for Best Cinematography. In the same year, he won Best Cinematography at Tropfest for Like It Is.

John has a strong background in VFX and post and in 2005, worked on his second Palme d’Or nominated short film Clara, and shared a special mention for its technical achievement.

John’s first feature was Lake Mungo, Directed by Joel Anderson. Its US release in 2010 will include screenings in 50 cities and Lionsgate have acquired the DVD rights for it’s US release. John recently shot his first US film, The Perfect Host in LA, based on the AFI and IF Award-winning short The Host, directed by Nick Tomnay.

His MA graduation film fOUR, directed by Erin White, was nominated for both AFI and IF Award for Best Short Film, winning the IF Award.

John’s most recent short Celestial Avenue, has just been selected for Slamdance and won the Grand Prize for best film at the Academy Award-accredited Rhode Island Film Festival.

Kate Miller Heidke’s latest Music Clip for the song “Last Day On Earth” has been nominated for an ARIA for best music clip.

John has just wrapped on Lowdown a national TV series for the ABC that will premiere in 2010
